The following are all lures brought to the UK by ex Charter Skipper Roger Bayzand who used to run Sundance out of Lymington. Roger was top of his game for a number of years in the English Channel with proven catches of large Pollack, Cod, Coalfish and Bass, and it is these lures that he had the best results. Now living in Australia Roger has passed on his business to us with one or two tricks of the 'trade' TWIN TAILS TWINTAILS.........these are THE COD CATCHERS!
Twin Tails are designed to be fished with Lead Head Jigs. (See picture above.) They can be rigged on a long trace as a Jelly Worm, or a short (2 foot) trace for a Hopper rig (diagram at bottom of page) which is jigged similar to pirking. Twintails can be fished on plain hooks and are often rigged on droppers above a pirk, or hung on the pirk's treble hook to dress it up. GIANT

The BIG fish
catchers!
Roger Bayzand quote: " work best with a medium speed retrieve and a bit of current, they have been responsible for some of the best specimen fish that I have seen on SUNDANCE. I can recall one day when a Glitter Pink FAT TAIL was the only lure that would catch" How to rig them on a hook: Using a 7/0 Power Hook or a Lead Head Jig. Start by placing the hook alongside the worm with the eye of the hook just above the head of the Fat Tail. Note where the start of the bend of the hook is in relation to the body of the worm, this is where the hook will exit. Start the point of the hook in the head of the Fat Tail and thread the body on the hook until you reach the exit place. FISHING: Using the same rig set up as a Jelly Worm, retrieve at a medium/fast speed, expect some violent takes so make sure your drag is set. FAT

JELLY WORMS Jelly Worms work when no other lure will catch, particularly at those difficult times around slack water. RIGGING: Use a 4/0 to 6/0
wide gape hook depending on the size of fish you are likely to catch. Start by
placing the hook alongside the worm with the eye of the hook just above the head
of the worm. Note where the start of the bend of the hook is in relation to the
body of the worm, this is where the hook will exit. Start the point of the hook
in the head of the worm and thread the body on the hook until you reach the exit
place. The worm should almost cover the shank of the hook and hang straight
down, do not go around the bend otherwise the worm will spin. FISHING: Hang a weight on the boom and lower to the bottom, then start retrieving with a slow to moderate pace. Vary the speed and note how fast you were winding when you get a take by counting your reel handle turns, then stick to that speed. Inshore reefs and shallow wrecks may only need 20 turns, on offshore wrecks 40 to 50 turns are the norm and we have had Pollack and Coalfish up to 80 turns. When you get to the desired height drop to the bottom and start again. Quite often you will feel tugs on the lure, DON'T stop, DON'T strike, just keep winding most times the fish will rush in and hook itself. Jelly Worms are best fished in the slacker parts of the tide.

SHADS Fishing with Shads is a particularly favourite method of Roger Bayzand and the ones he sourced worked well on Sundance.
"Shads
really come into their own when there is some current running, then they can
be deadly"
RIGGING: Use a 6/0 Sundance Wide Gape or 7/0 Sundance
Power Hook. Start with the hook point in the middle of the nose and feed the
Shad up the shank of the hook. You MUST exit the hook on the centre line of the
back, otherwise the Shad will spin.
FISHING: Using the same method as Jelly Worms but increase the retrieve speed, in fact try occasionally winding as fast as you can. You will be amazed how hard and fast the fish will hit these lures. They have proven to be excellent catchers of Pollack, Coalfish, Cod and Bass. Hot Pink Glitter, Flame and Yellow/Red are particularly good for Cod.

VIBRO SLINKY SHADS VIBRO SHADS are great lures for Bass or Pollack particularly when they are feeding on Sprats or Whitebait. Available in Blue/Pearl and Black/Pearl, to match the hatch. RIGGING: Just as you would a Shad, using 4/0 Sundance Wide gape hook. Pass your main line through a Sundance 10" Wreck boom, pass through a bead (preferably a rubber one), tie on a swivel, attach a 10 to 15 foot length of clear nylon trace (15 to 30 lb BS), then tie on the Vibro shad.
FISHING: Hang a weight on the boom and lower the rig to the bottom, then start retrieving with a slow to moderate pace. If you do not get take at one speed try speeding up or slowing down, sometimes a small alteration in pace makes all the difference to the action of the lure. Count the turns of the reel handle, inshore reefs and shallow wrecks may only need 20 turns, on offshore wrecks 40 to 50 turns is the norm and we have had Pollack/Coalfish up to 80 turns. When you get to the desired height drop to the bottom and start again. Quite often you will feel tugs at the lure, don't stop, don't strike, just keep winding! VIBRO
