Couldn't resist putting this one up...........don't know if you can spot him but yes the dog comes along too! Well he wants to choose his own dinner doesn't he?
One of Dave Hoolhouse' party with a cracking 17lb Turbot caught aboard Alderney Felix and below another of the party with a fine double. May 2005
My New Boat below. A Raider 18 powered by 90hp 4 stroke Mercury. I can get further a field and sample more varied fishing than before in safety. Its economical and gives a superb ride and of course I needn't fish alone anymore. May 2005
Dave Young with a 13lb Ling caught on a bit of rough ground. He later lost a cracking Eel, we know it was cracking because I caught just a few minutes after he lost it, with his trace in it. We estimated it between 50lb and 60lb. June 2005
Fieona getting in on the act, her best Pollack to date at 13lb. The grin says it all. June 2005
The best Turbot of the season which was caught aboard Chris Tetts Peace and Plenty. Lee Roger of the Northants AC is the proud captor, the fish dropped the scales to 26lb. Chris has had a better year than last year on the flatfish in what has been at times a difficult year for them. June 2005
Myself with a lovely looking summer Cod of 17lb, wreck caught. June 2005
Norman Butel holding aloft a pirk caught Pollack which went 16lb. June 2005
Gary Maurice with a brace of wreck caught Pollack. A quick journey out after work for us produced a 10 or a dozen Pollack and a single Cod in an hours fishing. We still got back for a beer before sunset.
Paul Williams with a new Bailliwick of Guernsey boat caught Blonde Ray of 36lb 2oz. It was caught just behind the breakwater in the background of the picture. Paul used a Redwolf 12/20 rod and a Redwolf Trolling 300 reel, and the fish took a sandeel. June 2005
Here is the Blonde Ray reported last week caught aboard Sheila Ann out of Poole. Trevor Small, skipper and captor, returned the Ray which was female and ready to lay her eggs. She weighed on the scales a minimum of 38lb 6oz but the scales bounced to 39lb 12oz. After a tense 20 minutes of give and take the Ray was landed on a Fladen Maxximus 12lb rod and ABU 7000 reel loaded with 18lb line. Trevor only had a 4oz ball lead so had the maximum fun from the fine fish. June 2005
We estimated this Tope at 30lb but looking at it now it seems a little bigger. Note the Gannets in the background. July 2005
A 16lb Pollack which took a coloured pirk in 330 feet of water in Hurds Deep. July2005
Dave is improving on his Ling technique! This one went 20lb. Look at the water behind, mirror calm and we were 20 miles out...beautiful!! July 2005
Thanks to Pat Carlin of Caracara for taking these pictures of my boat. July 2005
I only know this young lady as Alice but I know the other two! It's good to see the kids getting involved in this sport too. Alice was with a party of 7 aboard Alderney Felix skippered by Stuart Trought. August 2005 Dick Smith with a 6lb 4oz Wrasse.....it was fished for....I watched him! Normally a fish Dick looks for in the Autumn he just had to have a go to win the Alderney Week Father and Son Competition.....and he did. What an expert!! August 2005
And here is Dick's son Matthew with his best ever Bass, a smidgeon over 12lb. August 2005
Next photo's are of Brett Adams' Channel Island record Bass of 18lb 6oz beating the previous record by 11oz. Apparently Brett was very cool when the fish was hooked allowing skipper Chris Tett to net other fish on the same drift! The boat Peace and Plenty is from Brett's local port of Weymouth. September 2005
Shaun Tromans from Bristol with one of a few shore caught Bream over 4lb caught in recent weeks here in Alderney. September 2005
I couldn't resist putting this one up, yes we were all like Christian Lander weren't we. His face says it all...wonderful. September 2005
This bass went 10lb 14oz when everything was quiet.........except my ratchet!! September 2005
Steve Ace with a shore caught 34lb Tope. September 2005. Thanks to Shaun Tromans for the picture.
Jason LeNoury with a shore caught 5lb 1oz Black Bream caught in the Alderney Angling Festival October 2005. At this point it has capped a good season for Black Bream from the shore with many fish over 3lb and a fair proportion over 4lb.
Mark Harding with a personal best Sole of 3lb 10oz from the Breakwater. October 2005
The following seven photos are from the camera of Alastair House, thanks Alastair. Firstly Alastair is holding a Triggerfish and his teammate Andy Hedger displays a lovely marked Undulate Ray.
On the left below is John Dunster with a cracking Sole of 3lb 10oz 10dr, dead equal to my Sole above. John finished the festival as UK Champion and Top Veteran but his Sole only got second place due to a committee decision that when a fish qualifies for the board it has to beat what is already on there, unfortunate for us both as it was a contentious issue. Alastair with his Alderney record breaking Couches Sea Bream, a record which stood for 24 hours before being beaten by one less than 1oz heavier at 1lb 15oz and 2dr.
And here is again with a very colourful Cuckoo Wrasse, and what's this......a pair of old boots hanging from my shop ceiling.....just £20!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the joker himself. With the aid of a lucky hat he did eventually get on the board with a fine Mullet. Andy landed 11 and dropped 9 on his first day! Four days later he realised that his 'lucky' hat was in Leicester some where and needed another. I pointed out a selection and with his powers (raising hand over hats!) he plucked a lucky one. Deal was he paid for it, if he gets on the board it is a freebie. Next session he gets the Mullet, I duly and gladly give him his money back which 7 hours later he returned because he didn't want to take the luck away!!! Boy oh boy. Looks chuffed doesn't he? Andy Rodgers holding aloft his 6lb 1oz Pollack, this fish got 'Dodge' fourth i the Over 5lb Category. October 2005
Mike Spiller from Devon with a fine 5lb 12oz Ballan Wrasse caught whilst Mullet fishing. November 2005
Mike also caught this unidentified fish. Anyone with any ideas? To me it looks like a Wrasse/Rockling combination! November 2005
