30th March Blowing a hooley here so no fishing happening. First of the charters from the UK due to arrive has had to cancel, 50mph winds forecasted for tomorrow! On my Accessories page of our Mail Order section I have just listed the very effective yet simple Tronix Storage boxes and winders in stock. £7.99 for the box and 20 winders, £4.50 for just the box and £2.25 for 10 winders. 23rd March Fishing wise no one has been out and about. Some Mullet have shown from the Harbour area but traditionally this is the quietest of the all the calendar months. As soon as the wind abates, or at least coincides with a weekend, then maybe we can nudge the boat out and have a look on the banks for some flatties. An opportunity has arisen for an Alderney holiday aboard one of the top boats that visits the island. Rare is there an opportunity to fish aboard Paul Whittalls Offshore Rebel but follow the link for full details. I noted he has kept the price down too. http://www.deepsea.co.uk/boats/offshore_rebel/moreinfo/trips_board.htm If you are interested in a top of the range plugging rod for coarse or sea look no further than the Shimano Lesath http://fish.shimano-eu.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/nl/index/products_new/rods_and_poles/spinning/spinning_casting.html We have them in stock at some great prices on our Mail Order pages.
3rd March The DAIWA SALTIST ALL TIDER. STATB28. Our Price £114.99 RRP £175.00 is back in stock. Fishing wise not much to shout about. In truth though it is more to do with the lack of activity from anglers having the will to go. Nigel Bowditch has managed a few sessions. Day time he has been trying to winkle out a Plaice or two but with no joy but on his night sessions he has managed to find a bit of success. A couple of nights ago he managed an 8lb and 4lb Bass. The week before whilst having a go for Bass he managed a couple of nice eels, 39lb and 41lb. I've managed to find a bit of time to venture out, a couple of sessions of day and night but I fell to produce. We can look forward though to the start of the boat fishing as soon as the wind drops. Looking forward to a bit of wrecking and I hear there are some good Pollack not to far away, following on from that hopefully we'll see an early run of Turbot and Brill.
19th February Daiwa 7HT Mags back in stock at £144.99
18th February Great news regards the Alderney Fishing Festival this year, go to http://www.alderneyangling.com/festival.htm and find out about the £2000 record prize amongst other additions made for the 2010 event. 16th February Holidays, work, weather, lack of fishing activity has made this page become a bit dormant. Its to easy at the moment not to go fishing so reports are sparse let alone good reports. One local angler Mark Brayce has his eye on the ball and is finding a bit of Bass to worm baits. The fish seem to be a bit smaller now with the best of it around 4lb and most nights one would expect to reach double figures in numbers. One or two Smoothies have been caught as a by product which is rip roaring fun. Plugging hasn't really been working for the Bass but Frank Cusado (pictured below) ignored all that and landed an absolute beauty of 12lb 14oz!! Elsewhere some Sole reported in amongst the catches of small Bream, Pollack, Pout, Poor Cod and the very occasional Red Mullet. This is the time of year to bag a Small Eyed but no effort is being made to target them. Tope have been encountered but not landed from the Breakwater. Mullet conspicuous by their absence.............very strange. Boat season is around the corner, just need some fine weather. Boat ready but am I?
19th January Still bits and pieces coming out in the way off Bream, Bass and odds and sods. Squidding is good around the quay at the moment which draws 'proper' anglers away from their fishing marks. Our group managed 14 last night, mostly good ones around a 1lb. Yours truly took the sweepstake for the first, most and even the biggest but I did feel mine wasn't quite the biggest, took their money anyway! :-) We've got some SLOSH30's arrived, £59.99 till end of March, the excellent Coastal Smocks are in too. 15th January A cracking Bull Huss of 11lb 4oz for Bristol lad Marc Boyce caught on the south side of the island. Once again there's not much fishing happening but some lads staying with us had a cracking nights sport with Bass to 5lb 8oz with some 25 plus fish. Mullet have been seen jumping as well so hopefully we can encounter some of those. 8th January Happy New Year to you all, hope all things were good for you over Christmas and the New Year. I know the weather is an absolute pain for most so lets hope it doesn't last for much longer. Our airport is shut as it has 8mm of ice on it I am told so no flights in or out. This was a shame for a group of lads due to arrive yesterday for some Mullet fishing, all day waiting for a short window to exit the UK never transpired but the Bristol lads here are lapping it up at the thought of being stranded in fishing heaven. Currently they have caught a mix of Smoothounds to 10lb 8oz, plenty of Bass to 5lb, Red Mullet, Black Bream, Dogs, Pollack, Wrasse amongst others. They're struggling for Mullet though which is bizarre as a local rod is managing up to 5 fish a session with fish topping 6lb. I did hear that over Christmas fish were jumping in various bays so they're here and around.
